ABOUT john
Born in London, John spent his early years predominantly in California where he began playing piano at age 8. After several years of private study, John was awarded a music scholarship and entered the piano performance program at California State University Northridge. A shift in his focus led to a B.S degree in Biology and a Doctorate in Medicine. Capping a successful career in academic medical oncology and biotechnology, John opted to rededicate himself to his piano studies. He competed in the 2016 and 2022 Cliburn Amateur Competitions, and received a gold medal (amateur) at the 2017 Seattle International Piano Competition and an award for Best Baroque Performance at the 2019 San Diego International Amateur Piano Competition.
John continues to play frequently with local piano groups in San Diego. He is also an avid runner, having completed 17 marathons including New York, Boston, Chicago, London, and Berlin. He and his wife have traveled extensively and particularly enjoy Italian language and culture.
